Your First Massage Q & A

This is my first massage, what can I expect?
For your convenience answers to questions from first time clients can be found below.
What should I expect when I come into the Spa for a massage appointment?
You should arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your appointment. The Spa Coordinator will greet you and provide you with a massage client profile for you to complete. The profile has simple screening questions about your general health and preferences. The profile will be reviewed by your massage therapist and is used as a tool to provide a safe and comfortable massage.
Does massage hurt? How much pressure will be applied?
Light oil or lotion is used during the massage to allow your muscles to be worked without causing excessive friction to the skin. As the massage progresses the work may become deeper and more specific to your needs. At no time should you experience pain. Open dialog is imperative between you and your massage therapist to ensure receiving a massage that is best suited for you. Your massage therapist will rely on your feedback to provide the best massage possible.
Do I have to remove all of my clothing?
No. Your state of undress will depend solely on your comfort level. You are more than welcome to leave on your undergarments. However, to achieve the full benefit of a relaxing, rejuvenating or physically therapeutic massage, contact does need to be made to certain areas of your body. For example, if you were having problems with your back and chose to leave your bra on, it may hinder the work your massage therapist could do in that area because of your bra strap.
What are the boundaries?
There are specific areas that cannot be massaged. Those areas include private parts. Our licensed, professional massage staff will respect any additional boundaries you chose to include.
Will I be covered?
Yes. You will be draped with a sheet at all times. You will only be uncovered while massaging a particular area. When the work on that area is complete, it will be draped before moving on to the next area.
How will the massage begin?
Your massage therapist will introduce you to the room. You will be shown where to hang your clothes, and put your personal belongings. They will explain how you should lie on the table and answer any questions you may have. Depending on your specific needs, you will be instructed on whether to begin by lying flat on your back or face down on your stomach with your face in the cradle. Your massage therapist will exit the room and provide you adequate time to disrobe. You will hear a knock on the door asking if youre ready for the massage therapist to renter the room. Typically, half way through the session you will be asked to turn over. Your massage therapist will hold the covers slightly off of your body so that you may comfortably turn without being exposed.
How will the massage end?
Your massage therapist may politely inform you and then exit the room, or simply exit the room to allow you to rest quietly and collect yourself before dressing to leave. You will be met at the reception desk by your massage therapist with a cold bottle of water. It is important to increase your water intake after a massage to flush toxins released during your session.
